20th Annual Latin Grammy Awards

Despite the current situation of the Latino world, the celebration of Latino Music sure showed the good and groovy side of our melodic compatriots.

The 2019 Latin Grammy Awards took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and was hosted by Ricky Martin, alongside Roselyn Sánchez and Paz Vega.  The night was colourful and beautiful with spectacular performances by various artists who showcased the beauty and uniqueness of Latino music in all forms and ways and here we have the greatest highlights of the award night.

The night began with a big wow and grand opening as 20 artists were present to open the stage as they sang songs in honour of the past years of Latino music in all its forms with such stars as Prince Royce and Natalia Jiménez and others performing beautifully.

And it was Bad Bunny for the win as he took home the award for his genre as the Best Urban Artist and in his acceptance speech, he encourages artists in the category to keep up the good work and spread the melody.

Like everything Latino, there must always be family reunions and the stage of this year’s Latin Grammy Awards was the spot for the Fernández family reunion as Vicente Fernández was honoured with the Premio de la Presidencia and he performed with his son and grandson.

Alicia Keys made a stunning appearance at the awards and performed with Pedro Capo, Miguel and Farruko in a bright and colourful performance that was suitable for the awards and hard to miss.

Taking this year’s Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year was Juanes who dazzled his fans and the audience with some of his hits and was also dazzled with the surprise appearance of Metallica’s Lars Ulrich who according to Juanes changed his life.

Let’s not forget the legend Jose Jose who was honoured at the awards despite his demise by Pepe Aguilar who paid tribute to the great legacy left behind by the legend.

Once again the Latino tradition prevailed with the emotional speech given by Thalia as she received  her Premio de la Presidencia, where she spoke about her beginning in the music career and her obstacles and she also encouraged more of the Latino music to the world.

There was also the Ricky Martin magic as always as the host performed  “Cántalo” with Bad Bunny and Residente and got the audience grooving and moving to the rhythmic beauty of his performance.

There was also excitement and great surprise near shock for Rosalia as she was declared winner of Album of the Year for “El Mal Querer” and she also took home the award for Urban Song for “Con Altura,” as well as Recording Package and Contemporary Pop Vocal Album for “El Mal Querer.” It was a full package for Rosalia who was very emotional at the awards.

Latinos always end in style as Bad Bunny gave a full orchestra performance all decked in angelic white with his crew as he wowed the audience.

Surely with this, we are all looking forward to more hits and breakthrough from the Latino music world for the coming years.
